This 5 days Ausangate expedition trek is for those who love a true outdoor adventure amid astonishing snowcapped mountain ranges with multicolored valleys that contrast with lakes of different colors. Itinerary

Day 1: Cusco – Singrena Qocha – Arma Qocha

This day, you will have an early departure from your hotel towards the beginning of trek, passing through several small Andean towns amid beautiful valleys with sensational landscape views of the countryside and Vilcanota mountain range. Once you will arrive to Singrenaqocha will enjoy a breakfast prepared by your talented chef and meet the hole crew (muleteers tent makers and chefs) who will make possible a memorable journey. After breakfast your trek will be alongside Singrenaqocha lake with its unique and striking views blended with the surrounding landscapes. Lunch will be on the head of the lake and afterwards continue towards Qomerqocha, where campsite will be. Enjoy a well-deserved rest with our tea time/happy hour before dinner.

Day 2: Arma Qocha – Qomer Qocha

After breakfast, start your trek up the mountain to the first pass (4,920m. / 16,141ft.), from where you will have an exceptional view of glaciers, lakes and wide plains. After a well-deserved rest your trek continues alongside desert like terrain and marshy paramo like plains where herds of llamas and alpacas are graced by local people. Lunch will be along the tail prepared by your chef and the rest the crew, enjoy of delicious 3 course meal. Following the journey and after another 3 hours walk to the second pass (4,740m. / 15,551ft.) you will get stunning views of Ausangate, Callangate and Qoylloritt´y ranges as the beauty of lakes of different colors. Once in camp enjoy of tea time with hot drinks and cookies, and later a warm dinner and get a reenergizing night rest for the next day.

Day 3: Qomer Qocha – Huchuy Phinaya

This day your trekking tour continues from eastern to southern food hill of Ausangate mountain, starting with an ascent to the second highest pass (Jampa pass 5,070m. / 16,633ft.), from where the views of tall mountains like Salkantay and Tereqway near Cusco are just breathtaking. Later continue your descent down a valley where we are quite likely to meet highland shepherds tending their sheep, llamas and alpacas, spinning and weaving their wool into cloth with the peaks of Jampa and Qolqe Cruz acting as a backdrop. After a tasty lunch and amid imposing mountain start your ascent for hour and half to see impressive turquoise and emerald color lakes at the foothills of Ausangate mountain, which mountain is considered as tutelar deity since pre-Inkan times. Finish your day with a well-deserved rest at campsite, where hot drinks, cookies and the comfort of your camping equipment. Later, enjoy of a delicious and warm dinner before go to bed.

Day 4: Huchuy Phinaya – Surine Qocha

After a tasty breakfast, start the ascent to the highest pass of this route, Palomani pass 5,200m. / 17,060ft., from this point you will get a view of the south eastern ridge of mount Ausangate and the Vilcanota range is absolutely amazing. Once had a well-deserved rest and delightful panoramic views start your descent alongside Ausangate glaciers as they plunge down into the valley and up to red neon color mountains until reach lunch spot – Anantapata. After reenergized with a nutritious Peruvian dish at lunch, you will start to ascent to the second pass (Warmisaya Pass 4,985m./16,355ft.), from where you will have the last view and from different angle of the imposing Ausangate mountain. Then descend for one hour to campsite and be greeted with hot drinks and later with diner. You will definitely be amazed with the delicacies our chefs prepare out of the comfort of traditional kitchen.

Day 5: Surine Qocha - Rainbow Mountain & Red Valley - Cusco

This day, after early breakfast, you will head towards the incredible rainbow mountain, and upon arrival to the summit (5,100m./16,732ft.) you will have 360° breathtaking views. Your lead guide will explain why are especial these mountains and the reason of such a beautiful display of colors and geological formation. Remember to make the most of your time to connect with energy of the mountains and surrounding landscapes that are truly unique. Later introduce yourself to another surreal landscape, which fells like to be in another planet. You will be amazed not only by its stounding beaty but also by the immense tranquility you can be surrounded. To conclude your day, you will descend through a beautiful valley, passing next to some community villages, alongside local shepherdess gracing their herds of llamas and alpacas. Also, with some luck can see Vicuñas, a beautiful non-domesticated wild animal that coexisted with Andean people since pre-Inka times. After final and tasty lunch, our private transport will take you back to your hotel in Cusco city.

  • Pre-departure briefing. At our office, you will meet your trekking guide and the rest of the group you will travel with and get all the important information before your expedition trip.
  • Licensed and experienced tour guide.   • Best trained crew of chef, waiter, tent maker and muleteers. You will meet them before your expeditions trek. Our team is highly trained and do an extraordinary job. They will spoil and look after you for the duration of the entire trek tour.
  • One duffle bag. You will be provided one duffle bag for your personal belongings for the duration of the trek (Maximum weight 6 kg. / 13.2 lbs.). The rest of your belonging can leave in our luggage store or in your hotel´s storage.
  • Quality camping equipment. You will have spacious sleeping tents, dinning and kitchen tent, as well as tables, chairs, lamps, portable toilet tent and all necessary utensils.
  • Extras included in your tour pack. We are convinced that small details are important in your comfort and travel experience, therefore, you will have a worm and cozy beds and hot water bottle.
  • First aid kit, oxygen tank and short-wave radios. Our team of guides are trained in first aids and wilderness emergencies. We hold mandatory training sessions yearly in February. Your guide will always carry a first aid kid and oxygen tank to face any emergency related with altitude sickness, travelers’ diarrhea, scrapes, cuts, and others. Evacuations, if necessary, will happen as soon as possible to the nearest medical center.
  • 24/7 customer service. We have a great commitment to provide the best support to your travel experience.

Meals

  • 5 breakfast, 4 lunches and 4 dinners. Our talented mountain chefs will cook for you a healthy, nutritious and delicious dishes that you will get overwhelmed with the flavor and presentation. We respect all diets (vegetarians, vegan or special menus are available at no cost), so just let us know if you have any particular allergies or restrictions. Our travelers love our food!
  • Snacks on the trail and one cloth snack bag. Every day, before start your trek, the crew will provide fresh fruit, nuts, cookies and sweets for your trek. Your guide will provide one cloth snack bag to use it for the snacks you will be provided daily. In order to avoid contamination of the environment we avoid the usage of plastic bag.
  • Water on the trail. You will be provided with filtered, boiled and cooled water along the duration of your trek and can refill your bottles at every meal stop. We highly recommend to bring with you a camel bag, canteen or bottle of 2 liters capacity.
  • Wake up tea/coffee. Each morning at local family lodges you will be woke up, by our outstanding team, with a cup of coffee or coca tea or simply a delicious hot chocolate and enjoy the early morning view from inside your tent.
  • Tea time or happy hour. Get spoiled every day in the afternoon, before dinner, with hot drinks, popcorn, biscuits/cookies, fried wantons filled with fruits, Jam, butter, etc.
  • Health & environmental care. Our priority is your enjoyment and comfort; therefore, we are very strict following sanitary care standards in the manipulation of ingredients, preparation of your meals, disinfection of utensils, water and toilets. Hand sanitizer, bucket of water, soap and towels are supply to wash hands before each meal. All garbage produced along the journey and portable toilet treatments are returned to Cusco city.
  • Transportation service.
  • Private Car/van. Get transferred from your hotel to trailhead on day 1 and from end of trail to your hotel on day 5.
  • Private horses/mules. All camping equipment, food and your duffel bags (with maximum 6 kg. / 13.2 lbs.) will be carry by mules/horses on days: 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5. You only carry your day pack.
  • Emergency horse. This is in case someone needs an extra help along the journey because exhaustion, altitude sickness, travelers’ diarrhea or to get evacuated, if necessary, until meet a car / medical center.

Accommodation service

  • 4 nights on – trail Camping. The accommodation is based on double capacity tent on days 1, 2, 3 and 4. For your comfort 2 people sleep in 3-person capacity ten. A single tent supplement is available upon request.
