This amazing expedition trek is for those travelers that picture themselves trekking among glaciers, neon red desert mountains and to suddenly introduce yourself into a striking many-colored mountain “rainbow mountain” hidden deep in the Peruvian Andes. During this journey you will experience a personal close up to small community villages and witness how local people go in their daily lives living off the land and grazing their herds of llamas and alpacas on marshy areas next to different color lagoons and the shade of the majestic and imposing mountains. This route also is home of an array of wildlife including soaring condors, eagles and falcons, viscachas, Andean geese, vicuñas, pumas, and others. After breakfast, you’ll travel through the southern valley, along the Urubamba River. Pass through charming villages with gorgeous and sweeping views before continuing to the highland community of Quesoyoni (4,400 m. – 14,520 ft.), where you’ll meet your trekking team. The hike begins by following a small stream which brings you into the highlands where you can enjoy magnificent views of Ausangate Mountain (the highest peak in the area) and its beautiful lake. Continue to climb for about two hours, reaching the Warmisaya Pass (4,985 m. / 16,355 ft.), with an amazing view of the Vilcanota mountain chain. After the pass, descend for about an hour to our campsite close to the Surine Qocha (4,500 m. – 14,850 ft.) where you’ll spend the evening.
Start your day with an early breakfast to power through 1 hours more of ascent to reach Rainbow Mountain (5,036 m. – 16,618 ft.), known as Vinikunca to locals. This expedition is particularly special treat to any adventurous traveler, because the landscapes seem like taken out of a dream or a fairy tale. There are few places around the world where the world`s formation has left us such an amazing artistic mark in nature to marvel us every day. Enjoy stunning views over this unique striped mountain, with its crimson neighbor in the background and Ausangate looming overhead. Once you have taken in the views, it’s time to start the descent down the Red Valley valley. Your trek ends on arrival to Puka Mayu where you’ll board your transport back to Cuzco for a relaxing evening at leisure.
