This expedition runs beneath the magnificent Salkantay mountain (6.271m-20569ft), one of the highest and most stunning in the Peruvian Andes, which in Inkan times was God Deity (Apu mountain) and still in current days is revered by local Peruvian people. Enjoy the beauty of the high puna / parámo-like landscape dominated by the impressive Salkantay and Humantay snowcapped mountains.  Finally, we descend upon mystical cloud forest and majestic Machu Picchu.

Day 1| Cusco  to Soraypampa 

Early in the morning, you will be picked up from your hotel by our lead guide and depart in private transportation to Challakancha which is the beginning of the hike. Along the journey you will be impressed by the scenic countryside, picturesque villages, and perfect panoramic views of the snow-capped Humantay Mountain. After a well-deserved lunch, you continue until we reach our campsite in Soraypamapa, beautifully situated in the shadows of the surrounding peaks. Here we will be greeted by our well-trained crew staff (chef, assistant chef, and wranglers).

Day 2: Soraypampa – Chaullay (Meals: B/L/D)

This day, after tasty breakfast, you’ll ascent to the highest point of the trek, the Salkantay Pass (4,600 m. – 15,180 ft.), from this point you can appreciate the stunning Salkantay snow-capped Mountain (the indomitable mountain 6,271 m. – 20,694 ft.). The type of landscape on the way up to the top is like paramo, and the same on the way down for about 2 hours. Enjoy lunch at Huayraqmachay (3,700 m. – 12,210 ft.) in a local family house, with spectacular views of the mountains Humantay, Huayanay and the cloud forest.  After lunch experience the beginning of the cloud forest known as the dwarf or elfin forest, home to many orchids flowers and hummingbirds. The descent is for 3 ½ hours through dense and ever green lush vegetation until reach the next local family hostage.

Day 3: Chaullay – lucmabamba (Meals: B/L/D)

This day, after reenergizing breakfast, the trek starts with 25 minutes’ walk along a non-paved road, then connect into a beautiful old trail. Along the way experience the dense cloud forest vegetation, stoning viewpoints of valleys and the river. At every well-deserved brake, your tour guide will explain about the nature, flora and fauna. After lunch experience a high Jungle niche called Ceja de Selva where coffee, coca plant and fruit plantations can be observed. The all area around is very green and home to many species of colorful birds as the famous Peruvian National Bird Gallito de las Rocas (Cock of the rock), beautiful and different size orchid flowers, and with luck you can observe the Ukumari (Andean bear, spectacle bear or Paddington bear). Also there will be an opportunity to make local interaction by visiting local family house to see their houses and witness their daily live and activities.

Day 4: Lucmabamba – Aguas Calientes (Meals: B/L/D)

This day, after breakfast, you will walk up though an ancient Inka path and visit Llactapata (an Inka town), where you will have a guided tour by your lead guide and then have lunch with stunning view of western side of Machu Picchu. After lunch the hike continues down the mountain until arrive Hydro electric train station, and from there take the train journey, for 45 minute, to Aguas Calientes Town (2,000 m. – 6,600 ft.), where accommodation will be in hotel.

Day 5: Machu Picchu New Wonder of the World (Meals: B/L)

In the morning, after 1:20 hr. hike, you will arrive to the incredible “Lost city of the Inkas” scorted by your tour leader and be able to take a private guided tour of this incredible remains, enjoying the complicated history of the site, the surprising degree of technology achieved by its builders, the provision of water channels that reveal a deep understanding of hydraulics, and its exceptionally fine stonework. All this magnificent building allows you to go back in time and with the help of your tour leader revive the existence of those builders truly admirable taking in the awe-inspiring scenery. After a complete overview of the site you will have the remainder of the day to further explore the site either alone or with your tour leader. After such a wonderful experience get back to cusco.
